Belarusbank approved as a full member of the SCO Interbank Consortium

The XXI meeting of the Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Interbank Consortium (SCO IBC) was held in Beijing at the head office of China Development Bank on June 5. Viktor Ananich, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Board of Belarusbank, took part in it with a keynote statement.

The Bank has been participating in the SCO IBC events as a partner since 2012. Following the Republic of Belarus's status upgrade to a member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2024, Belarusbank, as the major state commercial bank of Belarus, with the support of China Development Bank (presiding bank in the SCO IBC from October 2024 to October 2025), has undergone all the procedures prescribed by the Consortium Charter and was unanimously accepted as a member bank of the SCO IBC by a unanimous decision on June 5, 2025.

— Last year was notable for a significant momentous event – Belarus has been accepted into the family of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries on the welcoming soil of Kazakhstan. The SCO IBC members have applied sustained effort under the chairmanship of China Development Bank. Among the results of this fruitful cooperation is the unanimous decision to admit Belarusbank as a full member, – noted Viktor Ananich in his speech. — In its new capacity we will continue to follow all the rules of membership in the Consortium and more energetically advance useful initiatives in the interests of multilateral financial cooperation between our countries.

Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Mr. Sohail Khan, Advisor to the Department of European and Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Mr. Chen Daiven, Chairman of the Board of China Development Bank Mr. Zhao Huan, as well as the heads of delegations of SCO member banks, welcomed Belarusbank's accession to the Consortium as a full member during their speeches at the meeting.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Interbank Consortium was established on October 26, 2005. The Consortiums’ activities are focused on supporting economic cooperation in the SCO region. The Consortium includes one national financial institution from each SCO member state – Belarusbank, Development Bank of Kazakhstan Joint Stock Company, Eldik Bank OJSC (Kyrgyzstan), China Development Bank, State Development Corporation VEB.RF, Habib Bank Limited (Pakistan), India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited, SUE SB RT «Amonatbonk» (Tajikistan), National Bank of Uzbekistan JSC, as well as 2 partner banks (Eurasian Development Bank and Development Bank of Mongolia).
