The first session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly seventh convocation took place on 6th of December. Compositions of the Council of the Republic permanent commissions were determined and their representatives elected.
Chairman of the Board of Belarusbank Viktar Ananich was elected member of the Permanent Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Council of the Republic on Economy, Budget and Finances.
Notably, Viktar Ananich was a Mogilev Region nominee and at the joint meeting of local Basic Level Council deputies he was supported by all 573 secret votes.
Unlike House of Representatives deputies members of the Council of the Republic combine their main jobs and the meetings in the upper house.
Background:
Council of the Republic is the house of territorial representation. It is formed by both voting and appointment. Eight members are elected from each region and Minsk by secret vote, eight more senators are appointed by the President. In total, the upper house of the Parliament consists of 64 members.
