Under Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated December 29, 2011, "On updating of the internal national debt limit and increase in equity of certain organizations" equity of two Belarusian state banks have been increased with the funds from the national budget. Total volume of state support amounts to BYR 14,500 bn, Belarusbank's equity increased by BYR 12,900 bn, Belagroprombank's equity increased by BYR 1,600 bn. As of 01.01.2012 Belarusbank's equity reached BYR 16,100 bn Belarusian rubles, which allowed the bank to become the leader by this index.
Technically, increase in equity of the banks was carried out by means of extra share issue and transfer of these shares into ownership of the Republic of Belarus.
The Government took the above said actions with the purpose of extra capitalization of the largest Belarusian banks that associate their activity with implementation of the top-priority state programs and socially-oriented measures, and with the purpose of the banking system consolidation and maintenance of its stability.
