On November 2, 2018 Deputy Chairperson of Belarusbank Sviatlana Kazhekina met with General Manager of the Russian office of UnionPay International Fan JiGuang in the headquarters of the Belarussian bank. The business meeting was attended by representatives of the top management of JSC Banks Processing Center Vladimir Tamashevich and Elena Odinochenko.

During the meeting Sviatlana Kazhekina noted that Belarusbank and China UnionPay had reached another milestone in the development of their strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. The bank completed all entry procedures and became the general full-fledged member of the international payment system.
According to the Deputy Chairperson, the bilateral cooperation of the institutions expands the network of acceptance of UnionPay cards, which facilitates the provision of banking services to Chinese companies and tourists in Belarus and allows for cross-border use of UnionPay cards by residents of neighbor regions, such as Russia, Europe, Central Asia. Belarus is a strategic partner of China and a member of the Belt and Road initiative. Belarus-China relationships in various spheres of economy are becoming closer day by day.
In turn, Fan JiGuang said that Belarusbank had successfully passed the certification procedure of an acquiring bank within a very short timeframe, thus getting the right to accept UnionPay cards at ATMs and merchants.

Belarusbank is actively connecting ATMs and payment terminals at points of sale to enable them accept UnionPay cards. In 2018-2019 UnionPay cards will be accepted by the bank’s ATMs and payment terminals on the whole territory of Belarus.
